Recap: 10/20/2007 Canucks vs Oilers

The Canucks headed into indian country to play the Oilers last weekend. With no blockades enroute, most of the team arrived unharmed and ready to face our old rivals. The Canucks were down five or six players due to Arie’s wedding, but the subs came out in full force and performed admirably.
We got off to a great start with two great goals from the point on a single shift by Jack (yeah that’s right…) to give ourselves a nice two goal cushion for the first two periods. After two periods our lack of depth started to show and we got a bit tired and the Oilers capitalized by scoring three goals to put us down by one with half a period remaining. Fortunately Brian found a loose puck in front of the Oilers net and sent it home to tie up the match. The teams fought hard to break up the tie, but time wound down a little too quick. Another minute or two and we would’ve had’em. Afterwards, good times were had by all at the local watering hole in Caledonia, where we were serenaded by the locals and served up some lecker beverages.
Next week’s game sees us back at home for our official home opener against Lincoln. With most of the wedding crashers back in the line-up, it could have been good, but alas yet another wedding next week so we’re short players again. We’re anxiously waiting the day when the team comes out in full force and demolishes the competition.

Recap: 10/13/2007 Canucks vs Stars

Well it was off to Smithville last weekend to take on the Stars. With a bunch of guys missing and a few guys playing for the first time, we were in tough but we took it to them most of the game and ended up with a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
After some sloppy play in the beginning of the game, the Canucks were down 1-0, but we quickly bounced back just seconds later as new Canuck Harry wired one upstairs to tie it up. The game went back and forth a few times and Wade scored one and Joel added two more. As the clock died down, Mark stood on his head stopping a number of solid chances by the Stars and made an awe-inspiring glove save in the dying seconds.
All in all, not a bad game for us, although we should be able to do much better as the season goes on - and wedding season dies down.
Next week, we’re off to Caledonia to face off against the Oilers. Since Arie is getting married the same night we’ll have to make do with a depleted lineup again, but we’ll give ’er 110% and see what we can do.

Recap: 9/29/2007 Cougars vs Canucks

With great expectations for the new season, we took to the ice ready to knock the socks off some kids from Caledonia. Unfortunately there was a referee mix-up, and the Canucks had to forfeit the game. We did end up playing a semi-organized game against them anyways, but promptly laid a big stinker on the ice and lost by some score I don’t quite remember. We started out quite strong, but never really got too many shots anywhere close to their net. We let in a few and kept playing and still never really got going. Someone – I think it was Wade – did score a nice goal, but besides that we didn’t really do much of anything noteworthy.
Things don’t bode so well for next week’s game either. We’re missing most of our defense and our top "deke-between-the-legs" artist, and we’re playing against the Oilers who should be a challenge. Let’s step it up and play some good ole-fashioned Nucks hockey!

The upcoming game against the Oilers has been cancelled. Stay tuned, and I'll let you know the new time and place...
