Recap: 10/28/2006 Vipers vs Canucks
On Saturday night the Canucks played host to the lowly Vipers. The team was firing on all cylinders thanks to the addition of some smart hockey minds behind the bench. With revamped lines, added enthusiasm, and a new-found commitment to quality hockey, the Canucks easily dispatched their opponents in an 8-0 win.
The game started out with a lengthy re-adjustment period. New line-mates, positions and ideas, combined with shortened bench, and a hot Vipers’ goaltender, resulted in a scoreless first period. In the second period, the team shook off their cobwebs and got down to business. Mike, who was playing his best game of the season, scored the opening goal to get the ball rolling. A few more quick goals by John, Jack, and Dan resulted in a nice 4 goal cushion going into the third period. In the third, Dan scored two more to record a hat-trick, Mike got another, and Ken scored his first ever CRHL goal. The game ended with Chris recording his second shutout in three games.
The Canucks were a vastly different team than the one that took to the ice at the previous game. The coaches seemed to help the team a lot, as the team worked well together, executing some nice passing plays throughout the game. Complaining, yelling, swearing, and ref-bashing were pretty much non-existent, and even though we only scored eight goals, the team was in control of the play for almost the entire game. A few of our goons (Ken, Dave and Mark) did get a few penalties, but they all seemed legit, and it was nothing compared to the previous game’s fiasco. After the game, the team left the ice with grins from ear to ear in anticipation for games to come.
Loretta, the official filmmaker of the Burlington Canucks, was at the game recording some great action shots and has once again compiled them into a video. The video shows a number of our great goals and provides nice slow-motion analysis of some of our great plays. The game provided a lot of highlights, so this week’s video is even better than the one from last week. Check it out:
Next weekend the Canuckers travel down to T.O. to meet with the Titans. Nobody really knows what to expect from this team, but it doesn’t matter, because we are really good. There is a chance James may be back from his suspension, but that is still under review by the league. Matt should be back and hopefully Joel gets his priorities straight and finally shows up for only his second game of the season. So hopefully we’ll play our first game of the season with three full lines. Game time is 9:00 (not 7:30 like the old schedule had written on it) at Canlan aka Ice Gardens aka York U. Anyone who wants to carpool can meet at the Coachman at 7:30.

I agree. That video is quite good. Multiple angles, closeup action shots, lots of goals, slo-mo, etc. It goes good with the music too. Keep it up Loretta!

I just talked to someone from the Sharks. They said that the Titans were actually pretty good last weekend. Sharks only won 4-0, so it's not going to be a cake-walk for us.

If your in need of a van, Dave can probally get a crew cab that will seat 6. If you need someone to take pics, I might be able to make it. I will need someones camera though.

Wade

James is officially suspended this weekend too. He's eligible to play in next Friday's game against the Predators. It would be good to have three full lines so we'll try get James Penninga to take his place this weekend. If anyone else can't make it - let me know.

I still call shotgun in the crew cab... right beside the cooler.

hey, how come james has 12 min in penalties? I thought a game misconduct is no minutes... just time in the dressing room.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 10:13 AM
He got a 10 minute and a game misconduct.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 11:03 AM
No he didn't... he got a 2 min. body contact, then a game ejection for the next body contact.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 11:19 AM
then a GM for waving at the ref. lol.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 11:20 AM
He got 2 minutes before that for something else. Then, 10 minuets for body contact, and then a gross missconduct for the rest.
By Jack, at 11/03/2006 11:26 AM
The ref kicked him out right after the hit... he went to the box... and then the ref came over and said that he was gone... then James got into the word war with the ref... and in the end resulted in the GM... he was never give a 10 minute, just 2 and a game... then 2 more games.

The league should really get their stuff together on things... they are out to lunch on half the rules.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 11:44 AM
well... he gets 14 games to use up 26 mins. My money is between Dave Mark and Ken on who will get to 40 first.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 11:52 AM
The Titans only have 7 goals for... so I think scoring is the only thing that we have to worry about... I smell another shutout for the BIG V.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 11:54 AM
You just jinxed him. Way to go.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 12:00 PM
Chris will have a tough time getting the shut out anyways. As long as he brings his A game and you guys play the way you played against the preds and Vipers, you should do well against the titans. Stupid penalties will cost you, so play smart hockey.
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 12:36 PM
ok mike... whatever you say... hey... when is your next game? haha
By Anonymous, at 11/03/2006 4:07 PM
