Recap: 11/4/2006 Canucks vs Titans

The Canucks hit the road on Saturday night to visit the Toronto Titans. The boys were all fired up after a long road trip and a long hot sit in a dressing room that resembled a dutch oven. The game started out fine, with our guys getting scoring chance after scoring chance. However, nothing seemed to be going in, and after a bit of an unlucky blunder in our own end the Titans ended up with the first goal on a wide-open empty net. Being down by a goal already in the first period was not something that a Canuck is going to take lightly. As the second period began, the Canucks needed a break to get back into the game. An offensive zone face-off proved to be that break, as Jack fired the puck into the back of the net before the puck even hit the ground. With the game tied back up, the Canucks continued to attack the Titans end. With countless chances, the Canucks just could not finish. The third period started, and the Canucks were in complete control of everything except the scoreboard. All of a sudden after a bad face-off loss in our own end the Titans put one past us and we were down by one with just over half a period left. To make up for his face-off loss, and to get his team back, Jack won the draw at center ice and flew down the ice past their entire team with the puck and snuck a beauty by the awestruck Titans. (When you guys write these articles – feel free to embellish your own goals too ;) ) . Finally back in the game, the rest of the team decided to help Jack out. Mike and Mark scored two clutch goals past the Titans goalkeeper to put the game away for good. The final score of 4-2 was a little too close for comfort, but our boys did dominate the play for most of the game, it was just a matter of time before the pucks started going in. The team toasted the victory with a couple of lagers, and vowed never again to cut it that close again.

Next week the Canucks finally get to play in their new home rink at their regular time. Friday night, 9:30 at the Wave Twin Rink (the second pad) against the kindergarteners. Should be an easy win, but we only won 9-0 last time, so let’s beat that.

Anyways... here's this week's much anticipated video.
Thanks again Loretta - (and Mike)

  • Nice video this week.

That number 33 sure can skate ;)

Had a little trouble with the penalty box door Mike? You're forgiven though... It doesn't look like a penalty on the replay.

  • lets not kid ourselves canucks we need to pull our socks up to be able to play in the A one day, good spirts we had but the overall quality wasnt up to par. Next team that might give us a challenge we need to pull together against and really show them how we can play.

  • I agree with Arie. We got a lot to work on. I think our biggest weakness is our defensive play - and I'm not just talking about our defenseman. We need to cut out all the odd man rushes against us by not having every player deep in their zone and make sure our centers and wingers come all the way back to help out and be available for the outlet passes. It is something we should work on at the next game.

Who's the guy whining at the ref?

  • Nice video, but I agree with Vito, who is whining to the ref? Is that one of the Poorts? Oh ya... did someone mention A division? First you should try win the B and start thinking of making a few trades.

  • Sharks shuy out the preds last week which means that the little havenaar kid has a better goals against average than me. I'm pissed we need a shut out next week. So I agree lets work on our defense. Just because i need a shut out and don't worry i'll stay in the net this time.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/07/2006 7:12 PM

  • I mean shut out the preds

  • For all you young men in west who play on this hockey team; your presence is requested at the congregational meeting this friday night. Please think about where your priorities are.

  • There will be more single ladies at the church meeting then there will be at the hockey game fellas!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 9:10 AM

  • When's the last time you saw a single lady in a Can Ref church? If you want to see one you'll have to go to Smithville and find a 19 year old.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 9:39 AM

  • ...and end up missing even more hockey games, eh Joel??

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 10:54 AM

  • I think this week pre game talk should be about getting your priorities straight. If your going to have lines made up for the rest of the season, then guys have to show up every week. having subs come in to replace those guys that aren't there screws everything up. Just a thought.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 11:17 AM

  • we have a full team this week?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 11:38 AM

  • Nobody has told me they wouldn't be there and James is off his suspension, so it should be a full team. I suggest we use this opportunity to try to get some lines together that will work for the rest of the year. We can ask the coach to mix it up all game until we find some combinations that work well.

  • Your pre-game talk should be about the ladies over a few barley malt sandwiches, everyone is starting to worry about what team you actually play for. Relax guys... this is B Central CRHL... Not NorthEast NHL.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 4:41 PM

  • I agree with the Reverend.
You boys should postpone this game eh
    Get your priorities straight eh

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 5:02 PM

  • I think you guys should trade Naslund

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 5:03 PM

  • Aren't beer and ladies our priorites? Although to impress the ladies and make the beer taste better we need to win so one goal supports the other i guess.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/08/2006 5:35 PM

  • I thought A division was your top priority...? If you want to play with the big boys you'd better shape up....or ship out. CRHL for life!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/10/2006 1:50 PM

  • I thought the A division was your Top priority...? A division is the pinnacle of hockey for any Can Ref's career.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/10/2006 1:52 PM

  • Hey Leo, do you have a stut-tut-tering problem?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/10/2006 1:54 PM

  • mike l: bring a sharp pencil tonight. i'm aiming for the team scoring lead

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/10/2006 2:56 PM

  • It's pretty easy to say that anonymously. Is that so that if you don't score - you can say it wasn't you? Step up and own up to your predictions!

I’ll put my name beside my boasting. I'll score two goals tonight - Guaranteed. Maybe I'll even get some assists too. I'm selfish though so that isn't guaranteed.
