Recap: 12/15/2006 Canucks vs Predators
Friday night, the Canucks met the Predators and managed to pull off yet another victory. The game-play wasn’t really something to write home about, but the referees managed to keep it interesting. With two players ejected late in the game due to minor slashing infractions, the Canucks were a little confused about whether or not the refs were aware of the rules. Rule #1 of the CHRL Referee’s Guide states that “All games are to be governed by C.H.A. Rules and Regulations.” I’m not sure when the last time two guys were ejected from a CHA game for slashing. In fact I’m pretty sure that slashing is a 2 minute minor. But alas, with all this ref-bashing I’m starting to sound like an Oiler… At least we’ve managed to pull off 9 victories now.
The game started out as usual for the Canucks. Slow and sluggish out of the gate, we let them score a goal or two before we managed to start playing some hockey. Newly acquired backup goaltender Mike let in a couple softies early. Sorry Mike – we won’t be calling you up again ;) - Just kidding. Thanks for shutting the door for the rest of the game. Maybe we’ll try giving you a bit of defense next time instead of just assuming that no other teams in the league could possibly score on us. We eventually woke up and managed to blow a couple goals past the Predators keeper. Our strategy of knocking their goalie in the head with a slap shot seemed to work. Mike ended up executing the above strategy for us en-route to scoring two nice goals. Joel also managed to pot two, and John rounded out the scoring with a nice shot from the slot.
The Canucks go into the Christmas break with a 9 and 1 record. Not too shabby. We just got to step it up a bit next January when we play the only team that has managed to score more than two goals against us. We are more than capable of handing them three consecutive losses, so let’s do it. Hopefully we’ll get together for a practice before the next game to work on our head-shots – and maybe some skating and passing too. By the looks of things we should probably practice our penalty-kill as well. I’ll try arrange something in the next week or two, so keep checking out the site.
To all Canucks and Canucks fans – Happy Holidays! To everyone else: we hope you have happy holidays too - but not quite as happy :)

Any recommendations for a practice date? I was thinking a couple days before the next game. ie: January 2, 3, or 4.
By Jack, at 12/19/2006 11:26 AM
Hey Jack, Just a heads up. Most arenas around the area are closed till Friday January 5th for the Tim Hortons free public skating. I'm Pretty sure that the Barton double rinks will be open though. I got Ice there last year on boxing day.
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 12:41 PM
Most rinks in Burlington have ice in the mid afternoon during the cheristmas break... they leave it open... try Nelson, it usually is free from 2 - 4.

I don't think everyone would be able to make a daytime practice. I only have Christmas and Boxing Day off, and I'm busy both those days, and I'm sure I'm not the only one in that situation.
By Jack, at 12/19/2006 3:29 PM
hey... Joel is player of the week for soccer... maybe he should stick to that.
hehe... go to canoz.ca for the latest updates.

Why does Matt always fall over? He should play with the infants on the Predators or Sharks, he'd fit right in.
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 3:50 PM
so you got your only loss of the saeson handed to you by infants?
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 4:18 PM
We don't count that game... We have about 101 excuses that we can bore you with if you want.
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 4:21 PM
you're right, i weigh roughly the same as most of the juniors in the league. although, i don't expect late hits in a non-contact league, i could use a few extra pounds to keep me standing up out there.
i'll just have to keep making up for it with all those nice assists--thanks for catching them on film lor :)

headshots are cool..especially when u brag about them...wade didn't get kicked out for the slashing call, he got kicked out for the pushing/shoving/roughing whatever you want to call it... as for mike's little opinion at the end all i heard was WHAA WHAA WHAA :(...u guys are a bunch of whiners... well most of u, some are good guys but ur just a bunch of babies......maybe this time u won't delete the comment
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 7:23 PM
Whaa,Whaa,Whaa,Whaa.........Sounds like a bunch of preschoolers (That's younger than kindergarteners, you Canuckleheads)Whaa, Whaa, Whaa.....I got slashed, if you look really hard you might be able to see it.
Maybe # 16 should only pay half the yearly fees , since he usually lasts only half a game.
Seriously though.......I keep reading how good you guys are (usually posted by one of you ), but do you know what makes a good team ? Discipline is one. Ever heard of it. Humility would be another, give the other teams some credit.
Time too grow up guys.
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 7:36 PM
Whos #16 and did anyone ask u to look at the canucks web site..
if u don't like the comments or video replays then stay off the website or at least let the nucks know what # u are for a little heads up hockey!!
anyways have a great holiday season!
hope to see you guys next game?

I thought this special team The Winterhawks wanted to play us Nucks
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 9:22 PM
headshots are cool..next time duck if you think it's too hard of a shot
By Anonymous, at 12/19/2006 10:45 PM
if that little kid tought that a tap on the stick was a slash... wow, wait till next time. as for being kicked out, it wasn't roughing... it was a little tap on the ass for a little kid that has a big mouth... the refs made a stupid call. also... who taught these kids how to use the internet? shouldn't their parents be keeping an eye on which sites they are going to?

I spoke to the Burlington arena co-ordinators and they have very cheap ice during the holiday season - $99 per hour. They don't have anything available in the first week of January before 11:00pm, so I asked about the 27th or 28th. Those nights they do have lots of available time. If I don't hear any objections before tomorrow at noon, I will book something for the 28th (next Thursday) at around 8:00 or so.
By Jack, at 12/20/2006 12:36 PM
Should I get two hours in a row? We could use the first hour for a practice, and use the second hour to have an exhibition game against some other team. Winterhawks maybe?
By Jack, at 12/20/2006 12:54 PM
2 hours is good... but lets not play against anyone... lets practice, then split our team to scrimmage.
By Anonymous, at 12/20/2006 1:01 PM
you faceless cowards! don't want to play against the winterhawks????? rather "practice"??? thought you all had more heart than that...
By Anonymous, at 12/20/2006 3:06 PM
As long as we get our practice in first, I think it would be fun to play the Winterhawks.
They are a very good team, and unless Chris has a spectacular game in net, they would probably murder us on the scoreboard, but it would be fun to see how we play against a team that isn't still learning how to skate.
Just my opinion though... If you guys would rather just scrimmage we can do that instead.
By Jack, at 12/20/2006 3:29 PM
Lets play the winter hawk it be fun. Our team doesn't know how to practise anyway, we all just bitch and complain and everyone thinks they know best and doesn't listen anyway, so whats the point? we might as well be get our egos in check before we play the sharks anyway.
By Anonymous, at 12/20/2006 6:38 PM
let the winterhawks play. then we only have to pay for half the ice,
By Anonymous, at 12/20/2006 10:39 PM
$10 bucks says "dazed and confused" is Chris.
I vote we play the Winterhawks. who are they anyway?
By Anonymous, at 12/21/2006 12:39 PM
aldershot..is that kiwanis?
By Anonymous, at 12/21/2006 1:00 PM
Ice time has been booked for Thursday, December 28th, 9:00 at Aldershot Arena - formerly known as Kiwanis. The arena has been fixed up a bit. They actually have real boards, glass, and decent dressing rooms now.
We got two hours. We'll spend the first hour practicing. Smouter and Poort boys, talk to the coaches and see if they can make it to run the practice.
For the second hour we'll invite the Winterhawks out to play against us in an informal game. I've only heard one person who didn't want to play them, so whoever you are, you were out-voted. I haven't officially invited them to play yet, but they seem to want to so it shouldn't be a problem.
The Winterhawks are a team that was put together last spring to play in the city's summer league. They have a bunch of guys from the Oilers, Sharks, and Moose. They're definitely better than any team in the B (including us) so it should be a good tough game.
Anyways - spread the word around to everyone who might not read this. If you can't make it, let me know.
By Jack, at 12/21/2006 1:08 PM
PS - Bring 10 bucks each to cover the cost.
By Jack, at 12/21/2006 1:10 PM
coaches too?
By Anonymous, at 12/21/2006 1:29 PM
Goalies play for free. Sucks to suck boys
By Anonymous, at 12/21/2006 5:25 PM
never thought a pylon would have to pay chris. how's the knee?
By Anonymous, at 12/21/2006 7:18 PM
So I don’t have to pay then either ;-)
By Anonymous, at 12/22/2006 11:06 AM
I guess that means I have to pay double?
By Anonymous, at 12/22/2006 11:24 AM
If any of you subs (James, Dan, Mike) feel like showing up to the practice/game, come on out.
By Jack, at 12/22/2006 11:29 AM
how bout 1/2 hour practice, rest scrimmage.
forces us to do drills fast and pay attention, and then go right into the game.
a good part of the winterhawks won't be there....we may have to give them some of our players as well.
thoughts on the 1/2 hr practice..???
By Anonymous, at 12/22/2006 12:12 PM
I say we leave it up to the coaches to determine how much practice we need.
Personally I need we need practice more than we need shinny.
By Jack, at 12/22/2006 12:25 PM
you guys keep bragging about that head shot...maybe you should practise to get some aiming practise for next game and this time hit the net, not the head.
By Anonymous, at 12/22/2006 6:40 PM
being a goalie myself, use your glove next time and catch the puck going for your head. stop your whinning. if you can't handle 1 shot to the head, then i think its time you switch back to reachforth hockey where the kids in that leauge can't raise a puck higher then your ankle. besides, what do you think a helmet is for?
By Anonymous, at 12/22/2006 8:06 PM
if mike could aim for your head and actually hit it, don't you think he would much rather aim for the big open areas of the net you aren't guarding and actually score at will??
get over it. i hear santa's got a load of pampers for ya
By Anonymous, at 12/23/2006 11:26 AM
Hey guys. Watch your LANGUAGE on the bench. This is supposed to be Christian hockey. Music on the videos should be much more cleaner. The water boy should be on some of the videos too. We have to beat the Sharks. Make sure you guys play your best. Merry Christmas everyone.
By Anonymous, at 12/24/2006 1:32 PM
First timer on your little site here. Whoever is whining about the headshots, settle down. There are about 5 people in the B-central who can even do raisees, I know I can't. And yes, you guys are awsome. You might just end the season in 2nd place, far and away ahead of a little team called the Oilers. But when playoffs come around, we might just sneak in there with a mediocre record and beat you in the first round bc we'll have nothing to loose. Should be fun though, I definitly enjoy our games. Hopefully see you fellas on the ice thursday. To all a safe and happy holidays
Oilers D-man
Oh ya, and stop complaining about the refs, look at our record, it doesn't help. Everyone knows Wade is a skid and probably deserves more.
By Anonymous, at 12/26/2006 11:35 AM
Thanks Gerb.
By Anonymous, at 12/27/2006 11:33 AM
I'm surprised no one followed up the comment about giving the other teams credit. We should after all they made it easy for us to put up W after W. Also why would we ask the coachs how much practice we need? We know the answer would be far more than the 2hrs we booked. 2hrs might cover the anger management we need. I vote we have a 15 minute practice and the rest scrimmage.
