06/07 Season Review

After 18 regular season games we should be in great shape for the playoffs, but apparently our livers are the only body part that has been given a workout. After securing home-ice advantage for the first playoff round against the Oilers, a slower and fatter Canucks team will lace ‘em up for a chance to win the cup. Oh wait, there is no cup… only bragging rights over a bunch of high school kids. We’ve beaten these teams before so let’s do it again. According to Wade, once he’s back from his suspension he’s going to score a handful of goals each game anyways, so we should be fine.

After a long season, the team looks back fondly on those special moments that make the Burlington Canucks the ultimate CRHL experience. Who can forget all the touching moments with our favorite referee, our frequent screaming and yelling at each other on the bench, our uncounted goals, broken skates during breakaways, James’ response to the ref after being kicked out of a game, bloody noses, internet trash talking, ML playing net, pinching defenseman - no names needed, Arie’s stretchy pants, countless cases of dressing room beverages, massive bills at the Coachman, Joel skimping on the bill at the Coachman, hand-prints on Wade’s arse, Ken scoring a goal, Chris’s five shutouts, Mike’s 18 goals, Wade’s 44 penalty minutes, beating the Sharks, killer YouTube videos, and many more…

Anyways here’s a nice little video of Arie and Wade recapping our season. They might be a little influenced by our good friend and team sponsor Corona Breweries. Stay classy Burlington!

Hart (MVP): Chris – No doubt that we would have lost half our games if he wasn’t making 50 saves a night.

Art Ross (most points): Mike – Finished with 18 goals 8 assists for a total 26 points.

Norris (best defenseman): They’re all good. I’m not picking one.

Vezina (best goaltender): Anyone but Mike

Jack Adams (Best Coach): They were both great. Thanks!

Bill Masterton (dedication to hockey): Derrick – Showed up to more games than half the team, and wasn’t even playing.

Rookie of the year congrats to Ken. You've really picked it up alot since the summer months Ken.
Mike deserves the rocket and art ross awards. his solid play on forward earne him this award after coming out of nowhere to secure the canucks with wins.

Guys, You had a great season with many ups and downs. I want to thank you for the opportunity to fill in for injured players. It was a blast. Good luck in the playoffs. Lay off the beer a little and get the job done. Lets make our dedicated fans, coaches and waterboy as well as yourselfs proud by finishing 2007 with bragging rights. Capture the championship boys. • You guys should not smoke as much in the dressing rooms next season, and next season Jack do not get those reffs we had. Other than that we played pretty good coming from a water boys point of view.

  • We unequivocally deny any smoking, drinking, or any other illicit activities ever took place in the Canucks dressing room. We quite simply have no idea what Derrick is talking about.

Oh, PS: we never used bad language either.

  • blockbuster trade!!!!
get ready for the news CRHL hockey fans: as the trade deadline loomed nearer, it was announced at 2:30 pm EST, Ken Vanderboom of the Burlington Canucks was traded for Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers. I guess the Oilers really are gonna make a run for the cup!!!

hahaha. Seriously though, I second the vote for Ken as Calder Trophy material. By far the most improved player on the team.

  • To recap the Markdale tournament: The canucks, joined by a few key trade deadline pick ups played a stellar few games. Starting out against the guelph platers (nee gators)we lost a tight game 2-1. chris stood on his head and solid play from the nucks made this a game that could have gone either way (we just didn't get the bounces.) Then it was straight to bed as we had a game early in the morning. after fueling up with some stellar campfire fare we went and dominated the wild 3-0 with great goals by jack and mark and another solid outing by our goalie. Then we sat and waited 6 hours or so for our next game against the raiders. we lost one of outstanding players dave hutten and picked up a couple of others in return. (tim had a hissy fit when he found out. it went something like this "but if I can't play in the finals.... and if you guys always win at soccer too.... waa waa". )We then dominated the raiders 3-0 backstopped by another shutout from chris. Then came the finals against joes northstars. we played replacement for E=mc hammer, as they had to go play a playoff game. While we got schooled, it was by less than anyone else who played them. All in all a great tourney where the canuck faithful played fantastic against a strong group of teams. Hopefully we can carry that kind of play into our series with the oil...
